Chasers Labradors, based in Taupo, has been breeding top quality pedigree puppies from imported Labrador lines for nearly 30 years. In the past three decades we have imported from the United Kingdom numerous Labradors of renowned international pedigree to enhance the gene pool in our kennel. It is our belief that not only must a Labrador look good but it must also have impeccable temperament and physical soundness. Due to this on-going dedication to mental and physical soundness our puppies are much in demand as family pets and hunting companions. Over the years our Labradors have also enjoyed success in the show ring in New Zealand and Australia with one of our exports to Australia having recently achieved the title of Grand Champion.

All Labradors at Chasers are hip and elbow x-rayed and scored and eye tested annually. We only breed from dogs and bitches with clear eye certificates and with better than breed average hip and elbow scores. We hope to have a litter later this year from our lovely yellow bitch - Chasers Helen of Troy (known as Apple to her friends!). Watch this space for more details as they become available.

I am proud to be a co-founder of Labradors NZ. Established in 2004 Labradors NZ (formerly Midland Labrador Trust) is the only Labrador organisation in New Zealand with a compulsory code of ethics for subscribers. We believe that a mandatory code of ethics guarantees puppy buyers that certain quality standards have been met by breeders. Labradors NZ warmly welcomes new members so please contact us using the link above (www.labradors.net.nz) for a subscription form for the excellent quarterly magazine. Labradors NZ has members throughout New Zealand and around the world who include pet owners, gundog triallists and show exhibitors. The magazine caters to the interests of all Labrador Retriever enthusiasts. If you love Labradors you will enjoy our magazine! From time to time we stage events such as dog training and dog behaviour seminars. We also hold an annual eye testing day at Taupo with a veterinary specialist ophthalmologist so that our subscribers can get their dog's eyes tested at a discounted rate. Eye tests are vital if you wish to breed from your Labrador (as are hip and elbow x-rays).

LABRADORS NZ CODE OF ETHICS

1. To promote the health, welfare and reputation of the Labrador breed in New Zealand.

2. To breed only from sound and healthy stock of good temperament. All breeding stock to be eye tested and hip and elbow scored with the original certificates available for viewing. Dogs affected with epilepsy, hereditary cataracts, retinal dysplasia or PRA should not be bred from. If any new conditions are detected that would make breeding inadvisable, then breeders are encouraged not to breed from such animals. Legitimate copies of hip, elbow and eye certificates should be provided to prospective puppy purchasers, stud dog owners or brood bitch owners.

3. To refrain from selling puppies or adult dogs with any known medical, conformational, physical or temperamental problem of a serious nature which might result in the dog's quality of life being adversely affected at any time in the future.

4. To only sell puppies or adult dogs to situations where they have every expectation of a permanent and loving home.

5. To never knowingly sell to or deal with silver Labrador breeders, pet shops, dog dealers, dog traders or their representatives. Breeders, where possible, should assist in re-homing any unwanted Labradors they have bred regardless of the animal's age.

6. To refrain from exporting Labradors to countries where dogs are abused, tortured and slaughtered for their meat and hides e.g. China, Korea, the Philippines etc.
